Why Leaders Must Be Clear
Mar 22, 2023Think about your past and current bosses. What are some things you wish you saw from them and what are some things you would like to see? One thing people really want is for their boss to be clear. Yes, people want their bosses to be clear. If you are not clear, it not only creates confusion, but it also leaves room for errors and mess ups. When things are not clear, it causes people to hesitate before taking action, because they are not quite sure where to begin or how to proceed
Being clear as a leader does 3 things: it gives others confidence, it creates a sense of calmness, and it pushes others to perform at their best.
1) GIVES OTHERS CONFIDENCE: When you are clear on what you expect from those you lead, they will feel confident that they can execute what you anticipate from them without question. They will have all the clarity they need in order to get the job done and get it done right. Being clear is important if you want those you lead to feel confident in what they are doing.
2) CREATES A SENSE OF CALMNESS: When you are clear, you give off a sense of ease that will calm everyone involved and prevent any frustration from entering their minds. If you are already being clear with your expectations, it will help those you lead to feel self-assured in their approach to whatever they are expected to accomplish. Being clear is important if you want those you lead to be calm.
3) PUSHES OTHERS TO PERFORM AT THEIR BEST: If you are clear with your instructions, those you lead will be more apt to perform at their best since they already know the goal, the value, and the process for what needs to be done. When people are assured that they know everything they need to know to get the job done, the certainty they feel will allow them to give it their all and to do their absolute best in their execution. Being clear is important if you want those you lead to perform at their best.
Being clear as a leader will help those you lead, but it will also help you. If you are clear with those you lead, then you are preventing any misunderstandings, questionable actions, and/or hesitation from them. Of course there may be some that still come to you with questions and/or concerns, but that should only happen every once in a while. Setting clear expectations and goals is all about getting everyone on the same page and creating a mutual vision for the entire team.
Are there some things you need to be more clear on with those you lead and/or work with? Try reevaluating your intentions and regroup in order to regain a better approach towards whatever you are working towards. I promise you, being clear from the beginning will make it easier on others as well as yourself. Once the instructions are clear, the execution will be a lot quicker and smoother with hardly any setbacks.
Be clear as a leader and you will be way ahead of the game. Trust me.
